There’s cause for great optimism. There are over 90 Covid-19 vaccines in development by scores of different teams in companies and universities globally.
And multiple teams are promising vaccines by September.
We are very likely to have global access to working vaccines by Christmas.
Can’t guarantee it of course.
But in the data I’ve looked at – and I’m a PhD ex-structural biologist/medicinal chemist, as well as having 2 years in a vaccine modelling group – SARS-Cov-2 looks very targetable.
Previous attempts to target the spike protein have worked successfully. And the first trial of a Covid-19 vaccine in Rhesus monkeys worked perfectly, protecting the monkeys that didn’t get the placebo.
So it’s important because it means we should do everything we can to eradicate it in the meantime, Keep people alive in the meantime.
There are still lunatic (IMO, sorry for the strong words) ‘experts’ talking herd immunity. I kid you not. It would mean 2-3 million US deaths for example!
These experts are callous nitwits.
And still too many news sites and ‘experts’ are talking no vaccine for 12-18 months.
No.
We assume we will have them sooner and for good reason. More than 90 vaccine candidates! And many coming from completely different angles!
So we eradicate now to keep everyone alive because we will likely have vaccines in 6 months.
Not 12-18 months.
You plan for the worst . . and the best.
If you only plan for the worst that is what you will be guaranteed to get.
