Victoria (1.8%) & NSW (3.5%) continue to systematically head in the right direction, in terms of daily % case increase.

1.8% increase per day is a now a huge doubling time of 40 days. Fantastic! And we STILL haven’t seen the effects of the new 2-person rule, stronger enforcement and presumably increased testing and therefore better contact tracing.

This means eradication through careful tracing is well within our grasp.

It was never true that we could not contain this pandemic here in Australia.

I’m not guaranteeing anything of course. But when only a week ago we had talk of ‘(local) eradication being impossible’ and now it’s within our grasp? We were talking ‘flattening the curve’ and 150,000 deaths! And a month ago we were talking ‘riding it out’ and almost a herd immunity approach like UK did for 3 days.

Now we really need maximum effort in diagnostic expansion and vaccine funding and re-thinking business-as-usual in vaccine clinical trial design and early vaccine release.
