A COVID-19 cure? Even more reason to lockdown

With reports that chloroquine – an EXISTING anti-malarial – and/or its derivatives, in combination with an antimicrobial, has had a 100% success rate at curing COVID-19 means we have lots of hope now!

And the results by French researchers looks real & robust for a quick study.

This is NOT a reason to stop the lockdowns.

Firstly, it may end up not being true, but that looks unlikely.

Secondly, it’s MORE reason to lockdown!

Theres hope of a cure so why risk letting it spread now?

It will take a while to confirm the results and now there’ll be a rush to stockpile chloroquine by nations. I think there should be heaps of this around, especially in the third-world, but who knows? You can get it over the counter in the UK & central America but not in the US or Australia.

So we need to hold out until this is confirmed and available.

Prophylactic use

Now, in pandemic planning, when you have a drug that works, instead of just letting people get sick and THEN curing them, you can generate ‘pseudo-herd immunity’ by giving the drug prophylactically to the population.

That means non-sick people take it during the pandemic.

Even if only half the population gets the drug this will usually cause a pandemic with an R of 2-3 to die down due to the smaller pool of susceptibles.

So hold out!

Strengthen your isolation protocols!

If you can, work from home. Keep your kids at home to study.

Don’t go near your seniors. Don’t let kids stay with seniors.

Keep your distance generally to 3m.

Try and isolate completely if possible.

In retail?

If in retail be sensible & arrange perspex shields, masks & hand out staggered entry time cards and tell people NOT to form queues!
